Model Quantification by Rusty Fuqua

The Art of Estimating - Model/Plan

The Images to the left are of a Floor Plan from a 3d Model with a view that isolates Base and Crown Molding.  One Plan view shows only Crown Mold, the other only Base Mold.  The different types of each Moldings are visually represented by different colors.  At a glance, one can see where each molding is used and the extent of that molding.  Since each item (pc of Molding) is an element of its own, it can contain virtually unlimited information. i.e., Species of Wood, Type of Finish (number of coats), Volume (for weight), Surface Area (for amount of paint), Weight (for freight), Length, etc., etc..  Each element has its own unique ID#, and since it is drawn in virtual model space, it knows what Room it is located in, and its x,y,z coordinate points.
