What do I do ?? I have been a builder since I was old enough to help on our ranch in the Texas Panhandle. Beginning at the age of 10, I shingled houses, I worked as a framing carpenter, & I have worked as a trim carpenter. I started building speculative homes for sale immediately after college. I wanted to accomplish more on each project than just building a house, I want to learn and improve. I was using computers in my building business, really, before their were computers. My first business computer was a TI (Texas Instruments) programmable calculator. On this TI, I produced a program to do estimating and cost analysis, later I used an IBM Series/ 1 to do the same things and much more. I believe that everything is pure math plus a lot of knowledge and a little intuition. I first used AutoCAD in the 1983 to "fill in the blanks" on my projects that were left by designers and architects. In 2003 I added Archicad to the tools that I use. During the last 20 years of my business, design & data extraction has become a more and more significant part of what I do. I have had the great fortune to work with some fine architects and designers in the past. I have been able to take the best that I have learned from each to apply to my work. Most of all, I have had some incredible clients who have challenged me to stretch my knowledge and abilities. |
The pages on this web site are homes that I have built. In most cases, I also designed what you see. If I did not design the original concept, I did do all of the final detailing for construction. Currently I am sharing my modeling experience with WKMC Architects of Dallas and CSI of Fort Worth in their effort to adopt BIM. I have contributed process and building philosophy articles to Cadalyst. The R&D that I do is centered around the Building Information Model, it's usage and function in today's building and architectural professions. My primary focus is proper 3d modeling to produce a building simulation and the direct extraction of data from the model to estimating programs. This process eliminates data entry errors, producing 100% coordinated information. This process produces highly accurate contract construction documents, shop drawings, and material quantification and specification of materials. My goal is to have the building industry catch the rest of the world's businesses in usage of available technology. I have worked on projects in Dallas, Chicago, Nashville, Amarillo, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Oklahoma & New Mexico. My e-mail is frf@arn.net , my phone is 214-802-0058.
