A living space can be perfectly designed, but if the orientation for the sun is not correct, the space can become essentially un-livable.
I have lived most of my life in a cold climate. One of the homes that I designed for my family included a wonderful sun patio. The patio was oriented such that even on a cold sunny winter day, that space was the most delightful place in the world to be. I would find myself looking forward all week to taking a nap in the sun on the weekend there. -- Let me tell you, our pets always find the perfect places to nap in the sun.
